Tim Murray is Associate Music Director of Cape Town Opera.
A ‘newcomer’ finalist in the 2015 International Opera Awards, is opera conducting credits include The Importance of Being Earnest and The Crackle (Royal Opera), Street Scene (Liceu, Barcelona, and Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris), Porgy and Bess (Teatro Real, Madrid; Liceu, Barcelona;Bordeaux Opera), Mandela Trilogy and The Merry Widow (Cape Town Opera), Così fan tutte (West Green House Opera) The Enchanted Pig and Babur in London (The Opera Group), Don Giovanni and La bohème (Co-Opera Company), and 22 world premieres for Tête à Tête, of which he was formerly Music Director.
Dance credits include Wayne McGregor’s Obsidean Tear (Royal Ballet, with a score by Esa-Pekka Salonen), Tetractys – The Art of Fugue (Royal Ballet and Bolshoi, Moscow)and UNDANCE (Sadler’s Wells), The Soldier’s Tale (Tokyo and Osaka) and The Wind in the Willows (Royal Opera House). In concert he has worked with orchestras and ensembles
including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and BCMG, and has appeared at the Aldeburgh Festival and BBC Proms. He opened the South Bank Centre’s International Orchestra Series 2016-17 with Cape Town Opera and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
Murray will lead the CPO through the tempestuous straits of Wagner’s elemental score in Der Fliegende Hollände.
