Thuthuka Sibisi’s musical education began at the world-renowned Drakensberg Boy’s Choir School. He subsequently went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Music at Stellenbosch University in 2011. Currently he is completing an MA in Performance Making at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Since he was Chorus Master for Cape Town Opera’s production of Il Viaggo a Reims in 2014 and Four: 30 in 2015, Sibisi was Musical Director for the premier of Philip Miller’s Pulling Numbers at the Ullans Centre for Contemporary Art in Beijing, China. In 2016 he made his European debut as co-composer (alongside Miller) in William Kentridge’s Triumps & Laments in Rome, Italy.
In recognition of his achievements, in July 2017 Sibisi was selected as one of the Mail and Guardian’s top 200 Young South Africans.
Sibisi is the Musical Curator and Director of Grace Notes which premiered at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in France. He conducts two performances of the concert in St. George’s Cathedral on July 13th 20th at St George’s Cathedral.
