Mandela Trilogy UK
DONALD GORDON THEATRE
Wales Millennium Centre presents
Cape Town Opera: Mandela Trilogy - A musical tribute to the life of Nelson Mandela
European Première
Stephenson, Campbell & van Dijk
20, 21 JUNE – Wales Millennium Centre, CARDIFF
Following its visit to Wales Millennium Centre in 2009, Cape Town Opera is now set to return to Cardiff with their brand new opera, Mandela Trilogy plus a revival of the much-loved Porgy & Bess.
From prisoner to president, Mandela Trilogy tells the extraordinary life story of Nelson Mandela. Set in three contrasting sections - highlighting Mandela’s traditional upbringing in the Eastern Cape; the turbulent but heady atmosphere of the townships at the onset of Apartheid; and finally Mandela’s long years in prison - the production employs a variety of musical styles, as well as an outstanding cast of over 40 performers, to cast new light on one of the world’s most iconic figures.
Music by Allan Stephenson, Mike Campbell and Péter Louis van Dijk. Written and directed by Michael Williams.
