TECHNICAL PRODUCTION INTERN – FULL TIME

ENGAGEMENT DATES: 1 August 2018 – 31 March 2019
MONTHLY STIPEND: R8000 gross plus R500 travel allowance
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: 2 year qualification
APPLICANTS MUST BE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 and 35

Main purpose:
As a technical/production intern at Cape Town Opera (CTO) you are responsible for supporting the administrative, scheduling, operational and financial needs of the Head of Production. You need to have prior experience with live theatre and performance, and to be creative and flexible when it comes to problem-solving.
Reports to: CTO Head of Production
Key responsibilities:
• Communication and organisation of production and creative/tech team schedules
• Assisting stage management teams
• Basic administrative duties ie procurement, petty cash reconciliations, email/phone communications
• Basic understanding of stage plans and production elements (ie scenery, lighting, props, wardrobe, etc)
Skills required:
• Excellent spoken and written communication in English
• Must have a valid drivers’ license
• Must be willing to work flexible hours
• Computer literacy in excel and word

COMMUNICATION / MARKETING INTERN – FULL TIME

ENGAGEMENT DATES: 1 August 2018 – 31 March 2019

APPLICANTS MUST BE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 and 35

Main purpose:
As a marketing / communications intern at Cape Town Opera (CTO) you are responsible for designing and executing company messages on various media platforms including social media, monthly newsletter, website, etc. while working within the CTO Brand guidelines. You need to have experience with various online platforms as well as design and video editing programmes, and to be creative and flexible when it comes to problem-solving. You will also assist with all CTO marketing department functions as well as events as noted below.
Reports to: CTO Marketing Manager
Key responsibilities:
• Managing social-media: regular updates of CTO Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts with content that is compiled/created by yourself including press releases, promotions for upcoming shows, exciting / interesting news about the company and our productions.
• Distributing the CTO newsletter via Mailchimp: construct the newsletter in line with the CTO brand and distribute to our subscribers on a bi-weekly basis, and includes press releases, announcements, ticket sales, interesting news, etc.
• Monitoring and regular updating the CTO website via WordPress.
• Administrative support for Marketing Manager (support with opera program content, general research, filing, scheduling, etc)
• Logistical support and coordination of events (cross between marketing and fundraising events (concerts, receptions, live promotions, photoshoots, etc.)
Skills required:
• Basic knowledge of the following design tools and software programmes: video editing programmes (eg. Final Cut, Premiere Pro), photo editing programmes (eg. Photoshop, Lightroom), publication tools (eg. InDesign, Publisher); WordPress (adding/editing CTO website, using analytics to improve the site); Mailchimp (constructing and sending email campaigns).
• Basic knowledge of social media. Knowing how, what and when to post on which platform. Also be able to analyse and monitor posts.
• Having a strategic vision. Be able to compile a long-term social media plan and execute it.
• Excellent spoken and written communication in English.
